Submissions to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is the foundation of the international effort to stabilise greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that will prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. This should be achieved within a sufficient time frame to allow ecosystems to adapt naturally to climate change. This will be done so as to ensure food production is not threatened and economic development is enabled to proceed in a sustainable manner.

The UNFCCC Secretariat administers both the Convention and its Kyoto Protocol. As part of this, there are periodic negotiations over the direction of the processes. These are attended by New Zealand representatives. A core part of the process is that nations and Civil Society may make submissions outlining their opinions of where the negotiations are and where they should be headed.

The submissions below have been made by New Zealand on issues of importance to agriculture and forestry, including their place in both the developed and developing world.
