Research Grants
- Climate Change Research Grants
Under the Sustainable Land Management and Climate Change Plan of Action, the Government has provided additional funding for research in the agriculture and forestry sectors.
The research is to help the land-based sectors to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions or enhance sinks - known as mitigation - and build the capability and resilience of the agricultural and forestry sectors to adapt to a changing climate. Other research is aimed at understanding the economic and social implications of climate changes, as well as addressing climate change in a broader systems context. The research programmes will also build capability and infrastructure within the agriculture, forestry and horticulture research sectors.
- Climate Change National Greenhouse Gas Inventory Research Grants
In order to meet the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) requirement to continuously improve the National Inventory, MAF has been provided research funding under the Sustainable land Management and Climate Change Plan of Action to provide information and assist with improving New Zealand's National Inventory for agriculture.
- Greenhouse Gas Footprinting Strategy
The New Zealand Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Footprinting Strategy for the Land-Based Primary Sectors was an initiative developed in partnership with the primary sector at the end of 2007.
The strategy seeks to position New Zealand's land-based primary sectors to respond to significant and increasing pressure by key export markets for information on the GHG-intensity for primary products.
