Applying to join the PFSI

Application process

This diagram shows the process for applying to join the PFSI.

Applicant details

An application must be on an application form and provide the following information:

Name of landowner

The consent of others with a registered interest in the land

A unique identifier generated by the applicant (required to track payments)

Forest Sink Covenant

A Forest Sink Covenant is to be submitted along with the application (see Forest Sink Covenant section for more information).

Once the application is approved, the landowner enters into a covenant with the Crown which the landowner must then register on the land title. Further details on this process are outlined in this guide.

Forest Sink Plan

The primary purpose of the Forest Sink Plan (which is to be attached to the Forest Sink Covenant) is to provide evidence that a permanent forest has been, or will be, established as a result of direct human intervention consistent with the requirements of the PFSI regulations.

Details of how the forest will be established and managed on the land.

Verification that not more than five hectares of existing indigenous forest has been or will be cleared to create the PFSI forest.

A map showing the boundaries of the forest sink area entering the scheme (See Mapping conventions section). An example of a map showing the boundaries of the PFSI Forest Sink Area is shown in the Appendix.

A site inspection by MAF personnel may be required to verify eligibility of the land to join the PFSI.
