    The report was produced by Crown Forestry and published in February 2010. The objectives of this report are to assemble all relevant information on the West Coast forests, provide an up-to-date analysis of the business, draw conclusions, identify and cost future options and provide information for the Crown to make strategic decisions. In preparing the report Crown Forestry has focused on commercial and technical forestry matters drawing on ten months trading experience.

    The Montreal Process criteria and indicators provide a common framework for member countries to monitor, assess and report on trends in forest conditions with respect to the full range of forest values and, in turn, on national progress towards sustainable forest management. Participation in the Montreal Process is the principal mechanism through which New Zealand can demonstrate to the international community that it is committed to sustainable management of all its forests, and what it is (or is not) achieving.

    The project adopts and/or adapts overseas LCA information on building materials to meet New Zealand conditions. The results provide valuable inputs towards developing a New Zealand Life Cycle Inventory.

  • National Exotic Forest Description as at 1 April 2007

    The 24th edition of the National Exotic Forest Description (NEFD) report has now been released. The report describes New Zealand's planted production forests as at 1 April 2007, based on a survey of forest owners, and provides a detailed breakdown of the age structure of these forests. It is published annually to assist with infrastructure planning, assessment of wood processing opportunities and for central government policy development. As at 1 April 2007 the total forest area was estimated to be 1.79 million hectares with a further 35 600 hectares awaiting restocking following harvest.
  • Forest Industry and Wood Availability Forecasts
    May 2008
    MAF's Forest Industry and Wood Availability Forecasts provide information about plantation forests and the wood processing industry in each wood supply region.

    The 23rd edition of the National Exotic Forest Description (NEFD) report. The report provides a detailed description of New Zealand's planted production forests as at 1 April 2006. It represents the planted production forest area (net stocked), that is, grown with the intention of producing wood or wood fibre.
