MAF Policy
provides policy advice and service delivery to help create prosperous, sustainable and innovative agriculture, food and forestry sectors that support a vibrant and healthy New Zealand society, environment and economy.
Our focus - sustainable development. New Zealand's thinking on sustainable development continues to evolve. It's time for MAF Policy to lead by integrating the elements of sustainability and translating this framework into active policy development and implementation.
There are seven Policy Directorates, namely:
- Innovation and Research Policy
- International Policy
- Management Services
- Natural Resources Policy
- Sector Performance Policy
- Strategy Development
- Sustainable Programmes
The Director of each group is a member of the Policy Leadership Team.
The main objectives for MAF Policy are:
- Economic Development - Our further understanding of the drivers of and impediments to the economic performance of the agriculture, food and forestry sectors will increase their contribution to New Zealand's per capita income growth.
- Environmental Management - We will enhance the environmental performance of the agriculture, food and forestry sectors by encouraging their sustainable use of the biophysical resources on which they are based.
- Social and Cultural - Our policy development on environmental management and economic growth will create social and cultural benefits and acknowledge and minimise damaging trade-offs.
Our ability to deliver depends on us having external and internal relationships that both challenge and support us, well-deployed resources, and a strong sense of accountability for our individual and collective performance.
