Unappropriated expenditure was incurred responding to a claimed (hoax) release of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) on Waiheke Island. Total costs of the FMD response were $1.050 million. $164,000 was met from existing appropriations leaving unappropriated expenditure of $0.886 million. The expenditure was incurred during May 2005, too late for an appropriation to be included in the Supplementary Estimates.

The Meat Levies Trust Account holds levy funds received from meat works for the killing of animals that are payable to the Animal Health Board, Meat and Wool New Zealand Ltd and the Pork Industry Board.
