STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITY
Pursuant to section 33 of the Public Finance Act 1989, the Director-General is responsible for the financial performance and management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The statements set out on pages 27 to 56 have been produced in accordance with subsection (3) of section 35 of the Act and set out the financial and non-financial results of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry for the period 1 March 1998 to 30 June 1998.
The financial statements for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry have been prepared in accordance with Financial Reporting Standards issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand and in accordance with generally accepted accounting practice and are based on the accounting policies set out on pages 31to 35 of the report.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was formed on 1 March 1998 when the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Forestry were merged. The opening assets and liabilities shown in the Statement of Financial Position were transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry from the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Forestry at book value.
In accordance with the Chief Executive's
responsibility, a system of internal control has been established and maintained within
the Ministry and systems operated which provide reasonable assurance as to the integrity
and reliability of the financial statements produced for the period.
The financial statements set out on pages 27 to 56 fairly
reflect the financial position and operations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry
for the four month period to 30 June 1998.
