Future Focus: Signposts to Success for New Zealand's Primary Industries

Appendix 2 - Impact Map: Energy Cost of Use and Supply

Impact Map: Energy Cost of Use and Supply

Effective thinking about the future is not so much about identifying what is certain to happen as encouraging action. The impact maps in Appendices 2 and 3 take a “systems” approach to combining trends and issues, which emphasises “the big picture”. Questions to ask in considering these impact maps include: Which trends and impacts can we influence, control, or shape, and what is the strategy for doing so? Which impacts will occur irrespective of our efforts, and what is the plan to hedge, insure against, or otherwise mitigate or leverage them?

The intention in providing the impact maps is to prompt discussion and facilitate analysis customised to specific perspectives. Those using the analysis will need to make their own judgements about the implications for their own enterprises; there may well be disagreement about the details of the mapped examples provided.
