Women's Action Plan

An Action Plan for NZ Women was released in early March. It was described by the Minister of Women's Affairs as "an integrated plan to improve women's lives, identifying three key themes - having enough income to care for themselves and their dependants, work-life balance, and general well-being."

Initiatives in the plan include reducing the impact of student loans on women; greater support for early childhood care and education, and out of school care and recreation; new policies to enhance opportunities for women with disabilities, particularly in employment; improving women's participation in modern apprenticeships; helping Maori women gain governance, management and business skills; and increasing women's access to financial planning advice and uptake of retirement schemes.

Copies of the plan are available from www.mwa.govt.nz or email mwa@mwa.govt.nz
