Government Web Portal - www.govt.nz - this site is billed as a "one stop shop" government web portal, allowing the public easy and quick access to a vast range of central and local government information and services. More than 3,500 government services and resources are available, ranging from what you need to know if you've having a child or renting a house, to information about study, work or recreation in NZ.

WorkSITE - www.worksite.govt.nz - this covers virtually everything there is to know about working in NZ. Whether you're considering a career, actively looking for a job, or starting your own business, WorkSITE offers comprehensive on-line information. Phase one of WorkSITE will include information on education and training, career and work planning, finding work, finding staff, working for yourself, employment relations, workplace health and safety, research and moving to NZ. New Biodiversity Website - www.biodiversity.govt.nz - the public will now be able to keep track of efforts to save NZ's flora and fauna. The site includes progress reports and case studies of work underway on land, in freshwater and marine environments to meet the aims of the New Zealand Biodiversity Strategy launched two years ago. Links on the site are provided to legislation, international agreements and information resources, such as collections of flora and fauna. The site also has a section giving people information on ways they can get involved in biodiversity conservation. The biodiversity website has been developed by the Department of Conservation, Ministry of Fisheries, MAF, and the Ministry for the Environment.

Internet Community Growing - the number of Internet users is expected to reach 655 million people by the end of this year, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. The estimate compares to 500 million users at the end of last year, an annual rise over about 30%. A growing share of new Internet users were in developing countries. China has 56.6 million Internet users, making it the second biggest Internet population in the world in absolute numbers. Thanks to "NewsRoom"

Hospital Performance Online - the state of the country's hospital waiting lists is about to be exposed on-line, allowing the public to more readily compare the performance of individual hospitals. The Ministry of Health previously published quarterly reports. Details of how many patients are getting their operations in a timely fashion will be published on the web and updated monthly. Information on-line will include the number of patients waiting longer than they should, and the number referred back to their GPs who are unlikely to get surgery. Each hospital will be graded into one of three categories - poor performance, showing room for improvement, through to achieving set targets.
