Controlling Pests in the Auckland Region

The Auckland Regional Council is proposing to widen the categories of noxious flora and fauna and is seeking public responses before adopting its new Regional Pest Management Strategy for 2007-2012. The plants to be banned from sale, propagation and distribution include phoenix palm, agapanthus, English ivy, bangalow palm, Norfolk Island hibiscus and Chinese fan palm. Also being proposed are new measures for dealing with animal pests, which could cover some exotic freshwater fish species, wild sulphur-crested cockatoo and feral cats.

Submissions close on 28 February.
