Climate Change Public Awareness Campaign

Hundreds of NZers have kicked off the year by pledging their support for a nation-wide print and radio campaign to address climate change. The Ministry for the Environment's NZ Climate Change Office (NZCCO) launched the public awareness campaign on 28 December 2003. It is designed to improve NZers' understanding of environmental issues relating to climate change and to bring about changes in behaviours that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. People can help reduce emissions by, for example, using energy efficient light-bulbs, kerbside recycling, tuning their car regularly, planting trees, and using public transport.

The campaign introduces the concept of "4 million careful owners", applicable to a range of environmental public education initiatives in the future. The call to action is "your country needs you" featuring real NZers telling their own stories. The NZCCO is leading the campaign in partnership with MAF, the Energy Efficiency Conservation Authority (EECA) and the Ministry of Transport.
