Camping Review
The Department of Conservation is to review the availability of family-friendly camping opportunities for NZers, particularly in coastal areas. Consideration will be given to making more public land available for camping if necessary. The review follows concern about the loss of family-friendly camping opportunities to rapid development, particularly on the coast of the North Island. The review will assess the true extent of the problem, whether DOC's existing camping facilities are sufficient to compensate for the loss of private campgrounds, and the best way of doing something about it if they are not.
