MAF Food Safety Seminars

Food safety is rapidly becoming one of the most important issues of our times for consumers everywhere. If you're in the food industry (as a farmer, grower, supplier, processor or retailer) consumer demands for safe food, both in NZ and our international markets, are already impacting on you. And there are more changes to come as NZ ensures it retains its position as a respected supplier of safe food to a demanding domestic and global market. Many of these changes will come in the form of requirements of an importing country requirement whereas others are NZ regulatory requirements.

MAF Food Assurance Authority is running a series of regional roadshows, called "Selling Safe Food to a Demanding World". This is your opportunity to hear about forthcoming changes, both in NZ and internationally, and how producers, farmers and other industry members all have an important role to play in the future of the food industry.

Topics to be covered include:

  • changing consumer expectations (why food safety is becoming more and more important);
  • new requirements from trading partners (e.g., making sure NZ continues to be seen as BSE-free);
  • reducing compliance costs for producers;
  • how you may be affected by upcoming law changes, including the Animal Products Act;
  • traceability requirements (tracing food "from farm to plate");
  • the important role played by farmers (e.g., by maintaining water quality and helping to prevent antibiotic resistance); and
  • managing risk throughout the food-supply chain.
