More Overseas Doctors for NZ

The Medical Council has decided that from April, certain foreign doctors no longer need to sit exams if they want to stay in NZ for longer than 2 years. The new policy is to be limited to doctors from the UK, the US, Canada, South Africa and Ireland who have already been given temporary registration. These doctors would have to agree to work in certain geographic areas (this is expected to help ease the shortage of doctors in rural areas), or areas of speciality where there are shortages, and alongside an approved supervisor for up to 3 years.
