Community Action Fund Trial

This year, several communities throughout NZ are to trial the 'Stronger Communities Action Fund'. The Fund works by giving money to individual communities to use for solving local welfare problems. This means that communities will be responsible for determining and purchasing the 'mix' of social services that best promotes the well being of children and families in their area.

The communities (and the lead co-ordinating bodies) trialing the Fund are:

  • Hokianga (co-ordinated by Nga Puhi);
  • Ranui (co-ordinated by Waitakere City Council);
  • Glen Innes (co-ordinated by Auckland City Council);
  • Whakatane (co-ordinated by Ngati Awa);
  • Mangakino (co-ordinated by Taupo District Council);
  • Porirua (co-ordinated by Pacific Safer Community Council); and,
  • Invercargill (co-ordinated by Ngai Tahu).

Depending on how well the programme works in practice, other communities may also be invited to join the trial. Child, Youth and Family will be providing support for the management bodies involved in the trial, and will be assessing the results of the project.
