Community Development Conference
Community development workers and policymakers from around the world are being invited to Rotorua in April for the International Association of Community Development Conference.
The Conference (Monday 2 April to Friday 6 April) is being organised with the help of the Community Development Group, Department of Internal Affairs and the International Association for Community Development. The Rotorua District Council, the Rotorua Ethnic Council, the Pacific Island Development Trust and the Confederation of the Tribes of Te Arawa are sharing the host duties.
International networking, discussion and action is essential for all communities. The conference will be an opportunity for people working in and supporting community development to exchange ideas and discuss effective community development practices and programmes. It will bring development workers and policymakers together to address common concerns.
Three themes, chosen as central issues currently facing most societies, will run through the conference:
- Social Inclusion (social development, putting people first);
- Environmental Sustainability (protecting our environment); and
- Economic Regeneration (rebuilding local economies).
The programme includes workshops, training courses, research papers, case studies, storytelling and facilitated field trips to innovative community development initiatives.
