In March 1992, MAF Policy adopted a new publication policy. This established three publication categories, one of which comprised a number of subcategories. These are summarised as follows:
MAF Policy Public Discussion Papers:
These papers are published to invite public submission on proposed new policy.
MAF Policy Position Papers:
These Papers state MAF's official position on particular issues, eg the end result of a Public Discussion Paper.
MAF Policy Information Papers:
Covering four sub categories set out below:
MAF Policy Public Information Papers:
Papers written for publication that are descriptive in nature, eg synopsis of submissions.
MAF Policy Technical Papers:
Papers written for publication that are analytical or expository in nature and are generally sourced from staff operational research activities of either staff or external consultants commissioned by MAF Policy.
Situation and Outlook for NZ Agriculture:
An annual publication of the current situation and future outlook for key agricultural products and agriculture in general.
Farm Monitoring Reports:
Farmer expectations of short term financial and physical forecasts on a regional and national basis.
Prior to March 1992, there was no central coordination of publication. MAF Policy published one series of policy papers covering public discussion, policy position and information. This was initiated after MAF's 1990 restructuring that established MAF Policy as a single business group. Up until the end of 1991, there were 13 MAF Policy papers published. A fourteenth one that should have been included in the series is also referenced here.
Policy Services have maintained an annual bibliography of resource economic, technical, contract and internal papers dating back to 1952. The last such updating was:
