Part 9: Recommendations
Farmers want to change, but dont know how; so are frightened of the changes. They need support to make the necessary leaps of understanding - a policy that should certainly pay off in terms of return on investment.
The recommendations arising from the report are to reduce the significant levels of uncertainty and discouragement - approaching anomie and therefore destructive while assisting farming families to successfully adjust to a more economically self-sufficient life and a more business-like approach to farming.
If farmers get focused support in order to achieve sustainable businesses, the prospect of costly problems resulting from confused and stressed farm families can be avoided.
In making these recommendations we would like to recognise the tremendous success of the local health initiatives, all due to the innovative, persistent and consistent efforts of local people.
The recommendations are categorised as follows:
- Support for rural self-help initiatives
- Service provision and coordination
- Education
- Further research
