Departmental discussions recommendation
Discussions are needed on the following schooling issues:
- preschool access and usage by different rural groups
- the potential role of secondary schools such as Taihape College
- issues to do with rural schools - rolls, funding, professional difficulties, Boards of Trustees
- travel allowances for school transport
Access to adult education recommendation
Promotion to farmers of opportunities and benefits of continuing adult education, including:
- training opportunities for school leavers and the long term unemployed
- distance education opportunities though polytechnics, universities
- exploration and promotion of Agriculture ITO opportunities to farm owners, and not just cadets
- use made of existing resources such as REAP
Provision of training opportunities in:
- identification of rural strengths, skills and options
- courses identified and requested by people in the community, eg legislation and compliance
- education for small business development, including planning and forecasting and communication
- use of new technologies for business management: spreadsheets, email, internet
- Treaty issues affecting land
