GLOSSARY

The document "Import Impact Assessment and Application to the Director General of Agriculture to approve the importation of Rabbit Calicivirus under the Animals Act 1967 and Issue on Import Health Standard under the Biosecurity Act 1993" dated 27 August 1996 is referred to in this report as the Application.

The appendices to the Application are considered to be part of the Application.

The authors of the Application are representatives of the Hawkes Bay, Canterbury, Otago and Southland Regional Councils, Marlborough District Council, the Officer of the Commissioner of Crown Lands and Federated Farmers of New Zealand (Inc). They are referred to as the Applicant Group.

The virus responsible for the disease of rabbits which is the subject of this application and the disease it causes has been given a variety of names. Some submissions took issue with names used in the Application.

For the purpose of this report, the virus has been referred to as the RCD virus and the disease as rabbit calicivirus disease or RCD. This is merely to retain consistency with the nomenclature used in the Application and endorsement of these names by me should not be inferred.

The debate over the identity of the virus responsible for the disease I am calling rabbit calicivirus disease (RCD) is dealt with elsewhere.
