Sharemilking Phil Journeaux This study examines the changes in the sharemilking industry over the last 30 years.
Industry Understanding Barrie Wallace Evaluation of the impact and understanding thereof associated with the legislature changes to the Meat Producer Board Act (MPBA) at the farm gate level and at the meat processing and marketing level together with interaction between the two.
Pipfruit Deregulation Barrie Wallace The impact of the deregulation of the local Pipfruit market on the industry will be examined in this study.

Impact of Biosecurity Act Grant McFadden/Murray Doak The implementation of the Biosecurity Act and its effectiveness, in relation to pest management in the field, will be analysed in this study.
Commodities Levy Grant McFadden This study will access the effectiveness in the field of the Commodity Levies Act through a case study of the seed industry.
Seminars on TB and finances Grant McFadden Under this study, seminars will be held to increase awareness of professional groups and farmers of the financial significance of Tb management for sheep and beef farms in Canterbury and Westland.
Social sustainability Humphrey Jagger This study will get a sample rural community to identify the key rural community sustainability components and levels of sustainability.
Energy Consumption Don Bagnall This project will develop and test the suitability of methods that use total energy consumption levels as practical indicators of the sustainability of agricultural systems.
Farm Succession and Sustainable Agriculture Ann Pomeroy This project evaluates the role and status of family members in the farm business structure and in management. It examines the level of integrated family decision-making during the succession process, the stresses on the farm-family arising from succession planning and how these impact on the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
Manual on Successful Succession Ann Pomeroy A manual will be developed with professional farm, financial and legal advisors on farm succession.
Time Use Study Ann Pomeroy This study aims to provide more information on matters not currently covered by population, business, and agricultural censuses, or household or labour forces surveys, on the labour input into agricultural production, the division of labour between agricultural activities and other farm enterprises, on social/recreational activities, unpaid work activities, voluntary work including activities related to the achievement of sustainable agriculture and community. (Rural part of bigger Statistics NZ project).
Unwaged Work Ann Pomeroy This study is a literature review and scoping study on the importance and role of unwaged work on farms.
TITLE MAF POLICY CONTACT DESCRIPTION
On-farm non-agricultural enterprise Ann Pomeroy This study is part of a suite of research into the role of multiple-economic activity by farm families and its impact on agricultural and community sustainability. This study looks at enterprises located on farm which are either not related to agriculture, or are not traditional farming activities or add value to agricultural products.
Facilitation of Farm Enterprises Ann Pomeroy Improve understanding by farmers of the range of economic opportunities open to them, sources of support and information and develop co-ordinated strategies with government and other service providers (eg. CEG, BDB).
Technology Transfer Chris Ward This study examines the extent to which the technology transfer needs of farmers and growers are being met by current practices.
Farm Structural Change project Phil Journeaux To determine the economic, social, and environmental impact of large scale dairy conversions in Taupo District.
Farm Management Indicator of Sustainable Kevin Steel In this project literature will be reviewed and a report prepared on the likely efficacy of a National level indicator on farm/orchard management in the context of international practice.
