10. Rabbit Calicivirus Disease
Research on Rabbit Calicivirus Disease (RCD) has moved to New Zealand following the outbreak of the disease here. Information is being sought on how to use it effectively and minimise the negative impacts.
10.1 RCD 431
|
| Programme Goal: | To gain a basic understanding of the epidemiology of RCD |
Objective 1
| Objective Title: | Field research on the spread and impact of rabbit calicivirus disease |
| Research Leader: | Dr Grant Norbury |
Description:
Researchers will undertake a small-scale study based on three rabbit-prone sites. They will seek to define the:
- rate of spread of RCD away from point applications and away from broadcast dispersion of infected baits;
- duration of epidemics;
- impacts of biocide applications on rabbit numbers;
- serology of rabbits before and after RCD epidemics; and
- role of flying insects in RCD dispersal.
