On-farm Quality Assurance / Environmental Management Systems Irene Parminter Evaluating the current and potential role of on-farm quality assurance and environmental management systems in achieving sustainable agriculture and sustainable land management outcomes. QA/EMS systems are seen as an important means of assuring consumers of the quality of New Zealand products, and of the acceptability of the systems used to produce and process them.
East Coast North Island Sustainability Issues Barrie Wallace Researching perceptions of sustainability issues held by rural land owners in the Gisborne, East Coast and Wairoa regions.
The Whanganui River Land Development Options Pilot Project Barrie Wallace Developing a process to assist the people of Ranana to identify the development potential of their land, and planning through this development.
Understanding Property Rights Conflicts Grant McFadden A process of gathering information on public perceptions on what constitutes property rights in rural New Zealand.
Field Testing Indicators of Sustainable Irrigated Agriculture Grant McFadden On-farm evaluation of various measures of the management of water for irrigation.
Impact of Community Voluntary Work on Farming Humphrey Jagger Assessing the amount and type of voluntary work in the Tuatapere District in 1998 compared to 1991 and 1996; assessing the affects on farm business and families; assessing the effects on the community’s social and economic viability.
Climate Shift Effects Alan Walker Evaluating the impacts climate change may have with respect to changes in regional agriculture/ horticulture production within New Zealand.
