SLM Hill Country Erosion Fund: Applications for funding closed on 26 February 2009. It is expected that recipients will be advised by June 2009 and that regional projects will commence from July 2009.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) has allocated two more erosion treatment projects a total of $1.4 million under its Sustainable Land Management (SLM) Hill Country Erosion Fund.

Soil erosion takes a number of forms in the hill country and is evident to a greater or lesser extent in most catchments. To assist regional councils in their efforts to tackle hill country erosion the Government has established the Hill Country Erosion (HCE) Programme.

The Sustainable Land Management Hill Country Erosion Fund provides grants for regional council initiatives that protect erosion prone hill country.
Papers and reports
This report includes a review of literature relating to the economic costs of hill country soil erosion and the benefits of its control in New Zealand and overseas. Based on the findings, an economic approach to the assessment of the economic costs of erosion is recommended and an analytical framework for the prioritisation of erosion control tree planting is developed and described in the report.
