Workshop on Indigenous Beech Drying

A second workshop on drying of red and silver beech, sponsored by the Sustainable Farming Fund, will be conducted by members of the Indigenous Forestry Advisory Group and the University of Canterbury. Practical methods of drying beech timber efficiently to produce a high quality product will be covered, including:
- Kiln drying beech from the green condition;
- Different combinations of air seasoning and kiln drying;
- Drying times for different dimensions of beech timber;
- Reduction of final moisture-content variations; and
- Energy demands in perspective.
The Hon Jim Anderton (Minister of Forestry) will give the opening address and Jon Dronfield (Forever Beech) will provide an industrial perspective on beech-drying issues. The full agenda for the afternoon is provided below:
